+What is an Airport Event?
An Airport Event is a free, scheduled group start at Cycloscape International Airport, one of the official 3D worlds of Cycloscape, the browser-based indoor cycling simulator. Every 90 minutes riders meet in the start pen, count down together and ride 2 laps (30.1 km) through the terminal and down the runway, with the 4.08 km Runway Sprint timed on each lap. At the finish everyone gets event results: position, total time, average power, average speed, best sprint and medals.
+When do Airport Events start?
Every 90 minutes, all day, on one global schedule: 00:00, 01:30, 03:00 … 22:30 UTC — 16 starts a day. Everyone sees the same times; this page shows them in your own time zone. Registration for a start opens as the previous one sets off, so there is always exactly one event to register for.
+Is it free?
Yes. Events are free for every Cycloscape account — nothing to buy and no Pro plan needed. Registering and riding need a free account; the schedule and the list of riders are open to everyone.
+Do I have to wait in the start pen?
Not for long — but you do have to be there at the start. An event goes ahead only if at least one rider is in the start pen 15 seconds before GO (19:29:45 for a 19:30 start); registering alone does not hold it, and a start with nobody in the pen is cancelled. Until then you can warm up on a trainer in the start pen, or keep riding any other route: 3 minutes before the start Cycloscape shows a reminder with two choices — save your ride (and share it to Strava), then go to the event, or go straight away without saving. Nothing happens to your ride until you choose.
+What happens at the start?
The start pen fills from 15 minutes before. One minute out, riders roll from their trainers to the grid, and the last 10 seconds count down on screen. Nobody can cross the line before GO; at GO everyone is released at the same instant, timed by the server rather than by anyone's computer clock. Running late, you can still start up to 5 minutes after GO, from behind the line, on gun time — as long as the event went ahead: someone has to be in the start pen 15 seconds before GO.
+Who rides with me? What are the AI riders?
Real riders always come first. When at least one real rider is at the start and fewer than 10 are, AI riders fill the field to 10, across six levels from Very Easy to Extreme, so a small event still has a bunch to ride with. With 10 or more real riders there are no AI riders. AI riders vary their effort like people do — surges, fatigue, a kick for the line — are always labelled AI, and can win medals.
+What if nobody turns up?
An event needs at least one rider. If nobody is in the start pen 15 seconds before the start, the event is cancelled: there are no AI-only events, no start and no results. Registering does not count as being there. Riders who registered but did not come are listed as not started. The next event is 90 minutes later.
+How is the Runway Sprint timed?
The 4.08 km straight down the runway is a timed segment on both laps. Only your better time of the two counts for the Runway Sprint classification, which has its own three medals.
+What are the medals?
Six per event: 1st Overall, 2nd Overall, 3rd Overall, Fastest Runway Sprint, 2nd Fastest Runway Sprint, 3rd Fastest Runway Sprint. One rider can win several — 2nd Overall and the Fastest Runway Sprint, for example.
+Is there a time limit?
Yes: 80 minutes from the start, an average of 22.6 km/h over the 2 laps. Riders still out on the course then are classified DNF. Times are checked by the server: a lap or a finish faster than the course allows is not accepted.
+What do I need to take part?
A free account, a computer or Android device with Chrome or Edge, and ideally a smart trainer or power meter: Cycloscape connects over Bluetooth or ANT+ and sets the trainer's resistance from the road. Riders without one can still take part; their power is estimated and marked with ≈ in the results.
+Does this change Free Ride at the Airport?
No. Cycloscape International Airport is still an official world anyone can ride at any time. Free riders see the start pen, the countdown and, when an event goes ahead, the bunch leaving, and can ride alongside, but they are never held at the line, never classified and get no event results.
+Who can see my name?
Signed-in riders see each other's display names in the list of riders; anyone else sees a first name and an initial. Signed-in riders can also see who is in the start pen right now and who did not start. Your heart rate is never shown to others unless you choose to show it for that event — and then your average heart rate is shown to everyone who views that event's results, including people who aren't signed in. That option is off by default, set for each event separately, and you can switch it off at any time.
